I love this! Whenever I’ve said to my mother how useless I feel, that I haven’t achieved anything, that I don’t have a career path etc she would say that I was a good person, that I shouldn’t feel guilty because I’ve never done anything to hurt anyone. You’re right, being a good person, being kind, is important, and it’s enough. Thank you for sharing 🙂
You have one smart Mom! And I couldn’t agree more. I learned the same lesson from my Mom. Kindness to others (no matter who, no matter where) is the ultimate measure of success. For who are we without love. 💖
The ‘WHY’ is everything. Whenever I get exhausted, I close my eyes and ask myself, “Shubham, why did you start?” and it really makes to start again irrespective of failures I’ve had. Thanks for reminding my purpose again. I loved it. Live well.
Thank you for sharing Shubham. Just like you, I am all about the why we do what we do. This is the foundation of purpose. Whether it’s being kind or anything else that lights your (and others) way. Asking WHY is something I do with my students at the start of every semester: https://drandreadinardo.com/2016/05/01/whats-your-why/ Thanks also for your feedback. So motivating!💫
Amazing!!!!
Thank you. 🌸
I love it. I think it should be the litmus test for everything we do. If being a (fill in the blank) is moving you toward compassion and kind action for others, then it is moving you in the right direction. If you are becoming more rigid (sanctimonious, judging, angry) then it likely isn’t right.
Thanks for the feedback & your ideas on “the kindness test” in everyday life. I love it! 🙌
Beautiful post, Dr Andrea. And I couldn’t agree more. Kindness is the only way. Thank you 🌹💕
♥️♥️♥️
This is lovely! So simple (though not necessarily easy!) and so true. Thank you.
Great post – what a wonderful perspective!
Thank you! Working with clients in transition prompted me to get creative about life purpose. Helping them focus on something bigger than themselves (and a job) gave them the motivation to rise up & keep going. One kindness at a time.
I love this!!!!
Thanks Lionel! 😊
LOVE this! So simple but so impactful!!! ❤️
Thanks Ipuna! I think of life purpose as something that wraps around our entire life. And the beauty of kindness as our “life purpose” is how good it feels on the inside & on the outside.
Well said. Kindness…our life purpose. So true! Never thought of it that way. Imagine how much better this world would be if everyone chose to be kind!
Great post. 🙂
Thanks VK!
So simple yet so powerful! The world would be so much more pleasant to live in if everyone would make Kindness their life’s purpose. 🙂
Thank you for sharing such inspirational post. It’s very nice to start the week with this positive mindset! I hope you have an excellent week ahead. 🙂
Simple is the best! Like a touchstone that we can all refer back to – whenever we’re in need of direction. Hope your week is starting off well! xo
I like to think that I am having a good week so far…busy but good! Thank you! The hope it’s the same with you if not better. 😊
That just simplified my whole life. It’d be great if we could all just focus on this one part and let the other stuff slide to the side.
Amen Dr. G! I think of life purpose as a guiding force for all we do. Reminding us of what’s important, no matter the circumstances. So important with tech overwhelm. Kindness just feels good. And so does simple. Winning combo! 🙂
How truly lovely.. ‘be kind’ to ourselves and others – yep I can go with that as my life’s purpose! x
🙂 🙂
Thank you for sharing this we have put such a weight on what should easily flow from us as “who we be” in the world. Show up and be kind.
I love how you wrote “who we be”. So much more weight & anchoring in that description of life purpose versus “what we do”. Thank you for sharing Katrina!
Showing compassion and kindness is what I try to share with others. It is a simple and yet powerful life purpose. Great reminder.
Thanks! You show so much compassion & kindness in your writing. And I am so grateful for your posts!
Thank you and you’re sweet for saying that.
Andrea, so good to read. It does change things, doesn’t it? I so do my best to be kind. I’m aware that this starts inside 😊 Thanks so much for the loving focus that you hold…. It is a gift in my life and that of your students! Good to reconnect and much love, Debbie
You spread kindness everywhere you go! Thank you for adding to the discussion Debbie. You always know how to make me smile! 😊😘
I think about this daily. To show kindness to others in any way I can. That IS the true meaning of life! Thank you for sharing! As always, I loved it!
Thank you! Worlds apart in geography. Hearts together in life purpose. Kindness 🌹
This is a great concept and one I strive for, yet am not perfect in this. If only we all could be kind, the world would be so very different. Thank you for the reminder!
Collectively our kindness makes a big difference in this world. One thought. One emotion. One action. At a time. 🌎💙
Thank you Dr Andrea.. the three-word phrase “today be kind” is so simple, yet so easily forgotten.
Have a lovely day. 🙂
You too Buffy! And make sure you save an extra dose of kindness for yourself.💙
Aw thank you… I’ll see what I can do. 🙂
Keep posting. 😉
“Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people.” Change begins with me and how will I hope to see change in others if it’s not real in me. So, I love your very pertinent theme and hope it inspires many to make the effort to be more aware of the plight of our fellow humans and through our empathy with them, bring about changes for the better in their lives.
Well done and keep up your excellent work Dr. Andrea.
Thank you for sharing and for your generous feedback! I love hearing how others apply this post and similar concepts in their daily lives.
This sounds like a great way to live and focus on what matters. Thanks.
The thought of our life purpose being greater than our jobs and our relationships and… lifts me up! Refocuses us on the shared purpose of making a difference (not just a living).💎
Me too Andrea. I’m finding my purpose in “communicating love” within all the roles I play. 😊💕✌️️
An existential thought- and one that I truly admire, to have only one purpose. The emotion of kindness, I believe should be put first in our lives. Before other emotions. Thanks for sharing!
Amen! Thank you for sharing! I meet so many people struggling with meeting impossible standards – and I find shifting their focus to something they can do every day for themselves and others. “Be kind.” helps them feel good about themselves once again. Simple & Profound. For us all. 🌎🦋
I just sat down to write about the “every day” effort one needs to make in order to reach
long-term goals. Thank you for all your positive posts! We share a similar ideology for sure.
Reblogged this on iamlifelonglearner.
My mother exemplifies this – she always has a kind word for everyone. I think kindness is a great purpose.
What an incredible role model you have VJ. Thank you for sharing. Both here and in life.💛
