What advice would you give your younger self?

ASK DR. D … ANYTHING!

At a recent leadership conference, student leaders from St. Clair College’s Student Representative Council SRC had the opportunity to ask questions live during the final portion of the training event.

Questions & Reflections

The student leaders raised the reflection bar high during this discussion period.

One Question Stood Out The Most

Specifically:

What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self?

In the video below, I share my answer.

It All Works Out

Even during tough times.

For challenge and adversity have not changed my optimistic perspective on life and learning.

If anything, tough times have underscored my belief in posttraumatic growth and resilience.

For everybody.

Growth is the only evidence of life.

    1. 100 percent Joanna!

We are still younger versions of our older selves. A meditation visualization strategy I explore with student leaders in the video.

And when I’m having the covid blues – I rewatch the video as a reminder.

      It. All. Works. Out.

      🙏 ☀️💙

      1. I confess that I did not watch the video until I read your reply. Then I remembered that I love your videos! They are short and fun to watch. I needed to hear the part about focus. Thank you! 🙂 ❤

        1. I love how you shared that!

The funny thing is that I’m often reluctant to watch or listen to someone’s videos on their blog posts…. because this is a writing forum, not a video / audio forum – and then when I do, I am so glad I did! Because I am following them for a reason: and trust what they share.

And you know what my secret ingredient is? I vow to make the videos less than 5 minutes in length, so as to leave you with just little taste.. of my classroom.

    1. My pleasure Christy!

“When we seek out the best in others – we bring out the best in ourselves” … Something I shared in a recent podcast interview. When you see me shine, it’s your reflection that you see Christy. Your shimmer.

I’m also curious to know –

What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self Christy?

    1. Thank you!

I have found over the years that the only habits “that stick” are the ones that are small, concrete, and mood boosting.

      Too much and we’re overwhelmed.
Too serious and we turn away.

        1. I love that Garret! Tone IS Everything! (Buddha ♥️) Thank you for taking the time to share your insights and experiences. My post is richer because of you. Wishing you a Friday filled with peace and light. Andrea ✨

  1. Love watching you share your wonderful wisdom and enthusiasm of life!

You truly have met your calling at St. Clair College… and it is easily seen by the students you touch with your authenticity.

    Stay Gold

    1. Thank you so much Donna!

You’re one of the few people in this world who knows my life story.

And the silver lining is how all my personal pandemics early in life prepared me well for 2020-21.

Similar to the article that I wrote for The Drive Magazine called OPTIMISM BOOTCAMP:

      https://thedrivemagazine.com/posts/optimism-bootcamp

How we frame the setbacks in our lives (daily and monumental) gives us the strength to move on, work hard, and not give up.

Sending you and the kids a double dose of hope and strength!

      Andrea ☀️

  2. I would definitely tell my younger self that you are more than capable to achieve anything and no matter how things look, it will all work out. Thank you, Andrea 🌞😊

    1. I love how encouraging your message is Syl:

“You are more than capable to achieve anything and no matter how things look, it will all work out.”

There is no doubt that our younger selves would have made great friends!

Two hopeful, faith filled optimists, believing in second chances.

Have a wonderful week my friend!
      Andrea 😊

      1. Thank you, Andrea and yes we would have been great friends for sure! Appreciating our friendship today 🌞

You have an inspiring week, my friend!
        Syl 😊

  3. My mom died this past Christmas Eve.

Six days later on my birthday, she appeared in a dream of my friend since second grade.

My mom said, “It’s okay. It’s all okay.”

    1. What a profound experience. For both you and your friend Crystal. I have always believed in the hidden otherworldly messages of dreams. And your mom’s message affirms this belief. Hope you’re doing well. And taking solace in your friend’s dream. I know I am: “It’s okay. It’s all okay.” Blessed by your sharing. 🙏☀️

  4. Wonderful!!

You actually said what I was thinking before listening.

And it is something that I ask from time to time.

What would my older or rather more realized self say to me now?

That is my self that has made it to where I would like to be that I am thinking of. I also often imagine my younger self looking at my life today being amazed by who I am and what has been done, and I think about how to continue to honor his dreams.

Thank you. It was a great video.

    1. Hello Craig!

I love this practice that you’ve shared:

“I also often imagine my younger self looking at my life today being amazed by who I am and what has been done, and I think about how to continue to honor his dreams”

Taking Stock of History — life and global — is an incredible way to take stock of how far we’ve come. And a wonderful reminder of the strengths we’ve cultivated that will get us through to what’s next.

I appreciate your time in watching the video and taking the time to share.

It’s what makes blogging so rewarding and worthwhile: learning from each other.

      Stay Well! 🍃

  5. Love your energy in the video Andrea. And your words and advice are so spot on. Everything always works out for our greatest good.
As for what I’d tell my younger self, it would be to not be afraid to take chances, to not second guess myself and to trust that inner knowing. When we follow our passion we’ll always be on the right path. 🙏💙

    1. Thank you for watching and for sharing your wisdom:

“Be not be afraid to take chances, to not second guess, and to trust that inner knowing”

And I agree wholeheartedly about following our passion. It takes risk to step outside of what others may think is best for you. And we might not always be able to pay the rent with our creativity. (That’s why we work at side jobs along the way). But if COVID has taught us anything — it’s that life is short. And I would much rather have joy in my step than in my driveway’s perfect car.

Wishing you a wonderful Sunday Miriam! 🇦🇺💙

  6. “It all works out!”
What you describe is one of the methods Louise Hay has in the 21-day book I was reading. You have to take yourself through each stage of life and look at the lesson. The lesson for each stage (for me) was a variation of what you’ve said: “You’re fine! Everything is fine.”

    1. “You’re fine!”

      a) I love Louise Hay and b) This ^ affirmation.

The simplicity (and logic) of “Everything is fine” neutralizes the Reptilian Brain.

Similar to you, I was inspired by another author – Dr. Doris Cohen to use a technique called REPETITION to heal triggering memories – both past and present lives..

( yes, I just said .. past lives!)

      https://drdorisecohen.com/product/repetition-past-lives-life-and-rebirth

I worked with Dr. Cohen for three sessions via phone and she regressed me back, and helped me to integrate this technique into my life.

And similar to yours Dr. G. It’s a life saver. And now we have the opportunity to pass the healing on to the next generation.

      “It All Works Out“ 💜💜

    1. Having a strong support network and a positive mindset helps tremendously.

COMMUNITY is big for me too.

Including our WordPress Blogs and YouTube Communities.

I also love the life lessons & advice to your younger self you shared in the comments on YouTube.

      Including:

“COVID has helped me discover a new me”

Always Grateful for your support. 🙏❤️
