Live Zoom Conference
At a recent leadership conference, student leaders from St. Clair College’s Student Representative Council SRC had the opportunity to ask questions live during the final portion of the virtual training event.
Ask Dr. D
The student leaders raised the reflection bar high during this discussion period.
One Question Stood Out The Most
Specifically:
What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self?
In the video below, I share my answer.
“It All Works Out“
Even during COVID-19.
For the pandemic has not changed my optimistic perspective on life and learning.
If anything, COVID-19 has underscored my belief in posttraumatic growth and resilience.
For everybody.
Growth is the only evidence of life.

You’ve summed it up well. And “It all works out,” still works as advice for my present self. π
100 percent Joanna!
We are still younger versions of our older selves. A meditation visualization strategy I explore with student leaders in the video.
And when Iβm having the covid blues – I rewatch the video as a reminder.
It. All. Works. Out.

I confess that I did not watch the video until I read your reply. Then I remembered that I love your videos! They are short and fun to watch. I needed to hear the part about focus. Thank you! π β€
I love how you shared that!
The funny thing is that Iβm often reluctant to watch or listen to someoneβs videos on their blog posts…. because this is a writing forum, not a video / audio forum – and then when I do, I am so glad I did! Because I am following them for a reason: and trust what they share.
And you know what my secret ingredient is? I vow to make the videos less than 5 minutes in length, so as to leave you with just little taste.. of my classroom.
PSYCHOLOGY THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
That secret ingredient is working out well, especially since all the other ingredients taste good and are good for us. π
I love that you focus on resilience rather than focusing on negatives. Thanks for always reaching up and encouraging us to do the same π
My pleasure Christy!
“When we seek out the best in others – we bring out the best in ourselves” … Something I shared in a recent podcast interview. When you see me shine, it’s your reflection that you see Christy. Your shimmer.
I’m also curious to know –
What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self Christy?
It will work out fine. It isn’t about you. You are strong. Don’t underestimate yourself. Don’t take it personally. You don’t know how good you are and you are good.
Wonderful mantras to live by!
Love the idea on your video of keeping it small.
Thank you!
I have found over the years that the only habits “that stick” are the ones that are small, concrete, and mood boosting.
Too much and we’re overwhelmed.
Too serious and we turn away.

Communication is key both with yourself and those around you.
Excellent advice to your younger self Garrett. What would you say is your greatest communication strength?
Tone. That is the single most important melody to a conversation. Right speech as Buddhism puts it, entails the what and how words are used.
I love that Garret! Tone IS Everything! (Buddha β₯οΈ) Thank you for taking the time to share your insights and experiences. My post is richer because of you. Wishing you a Friday filled with peace and light. Andrea β¨
Love watching you share your wonderful wisdom and enthusiasm of life!
You truly have met your calling at St. Clair College⦠and it is easily seen by the students you touch with your authenticity.
Stay Gold
Thank you so much Donna!
Youβre one of the few people in this world who knows my life story.
And the silver lining is how all my personal pandemics early in life prepared me well for 2020-21.
βIt All Works Outβ
Similar to the article that I wrote for The Drive Magazine called OPTIMISM BOOTCAMP:
https://thedrivemagazine.com/posts/optimism-bootcamp
How we frame the setbacks in our lives (daily and monumental) gives us the strength to move on, work hard, and not give up.
Sending you and the kids a double dose of hope and strength!

I would definitely tell my younger self that you are more than capable to achieve anything and no matter how things look, it will all work out. Thank you, Andrea ππ
I love how encouraging your message is Syl:
βYou are more than capable to achieve anything and no matter how things look, it will all work out.β
There is no doubt that our younger selves would have made great friends!
Two hopeful, faith filled optimists, believing in second chances.
Have a wonderful week my friend!
Andrea π
Thank you, Andrea and yes we would have been great friends for sure! Appreciating our friendship today π
You have an inspiring week, my friend!
Syl π
My mom died this past Christmas Eve.
Six days later on my birthday, she appeared in a dream of my friend since second grade.
My mom said, βItβs okay. Itβs all okay.β
What a profound experience. For both you and your friend Crystal. I have always believed in the hidden otherworldly messages of dreams. And your momβs message affirms this belief. Hope youβre doing well. And taking solace in your friendβs dream. I know I am: βItβs okay. Itβs all okay.β Blessed by your sharing. πβοΈ
Wonderful!!
You actually said what I was thinking before listening.
And it is something that I ask from time to time.
What would my older or rather more realized self say to me now?
That is my self that has made it to where I would like to be that I am thinking of. I also often imagine my younger self looking at my life today being amazed by who I am and what has been done, and I think about how to continue to honor his dreams.
Thank you. It was a great video.
Hello Craig!
I love this practice that youβve shared:
βI also often imagine my younger self looking at my life today being amazed by who I am and what has been done, and I think about how to continue to honor his dreamsβ
Taking Stock of History β life and global β is an incredible way to take stock of how far weβve come. And a wonderful reminder of the strengths weβve cultivated that will get us through to whatβs next.
I appreciate your time in watching the video and taking the time to share.
Itβs what makes blogging so rewarding and worthwhile: learning from each other.
Stay Well! π
I agree. Sounds like we think alot alike. Peace and Blessings
Good post.
My advice is: keep moving
Love your advice to younger self Athira πββοΈβ₯οΈ
Thanks much Dr. D
Hope youβre doing well and safe!
Love your energy in the video Andrea. And your words and advice are so spot on. Everything always works out for our greatest good.
As for what Iβd tell my younger self, it would be to not be afraid to take chances, to not second guess myself and to trust that inner knowing. When we follow our passion weβll always be on the right path. ππ
Thank you for watching and for sharing your wisdom:
βBe not be afraid to take chances, to not second guess, and to trust that inner knowingβ
And I agree wholeheartedly about following our passion. It takes risk to step outside of what others may think is best for you. And we might not always be able to pay the rent with our creativity. (Thatβs why we work at side jobs along the way). But if COVID has taught us anything β itβs that life is short. And I would much rather have joy in my step than in my drivewayβs perfect car.
Wishing you a wonderful Sunday Miriam! π¦πΊπ
“It all works out!”
What you describe is one of the methods Louise Hay has in the 21-day book I was reading. You have to take yourself through each stage of life and look at the lesson. The lesson for each stage (for me) was a variation of what you’ve said: “You’re fine! Everything is fine.”
βYouβre fine!”
a) I love Louise Hay and b) This ^ affirmation.
The simplicity (and logic) of “Everything is fine” neutralizes the Reptilian Brain.
Similar to you, I was inspired by another author – Dr. Doris Cohen to use a technique called REPETITION to heal triggering memories – both past and present lives..
( yes, I just said .. past lives!)
https://drdorisecohen.com/product/repetition-past-lives-life-and-rebirth
I worked with Dr. Cohen for three sessions via phone and she regressed me back, and helped me to integrate this technique into my life.
And similar to yours Dr. G. It’s a life saver. And now we have the opportunity to pass the healing on to the next generation.
βIt All Works Outβ ππ
Iβd advise my younger self to set bout loving herself as the central mission of her life
Susan, I am right there with you!
Love yourself first.
Give away what overflows..
Very well articulated Dr Andrea…
Things work out…one just have to keep at it..
Stay blessed ππ
Having a strong support network and a positive mindset helps tremendously.
