About Dr. Andrea

Overview

Dr. Andrea Dinardo is a psychology professor, TEDx speaker, and former school psychologist who applies positive psychology to facilitate personal growth and transformational change.

Her psychology blog and TEDx Talk (both called Thriving Under Pressure) were created in response to rising levels of student stress and anxiety. The purpose of both is to help individuals and groups develop coping skills in interactive, educational, and uplifting ways.

Background

Dr. Dinardo received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology from Western University. Afterwards, she completed the post-doc internship and exam requirements of the College of Psychologists to become a fully registered psychologist (C. Psych.) in the province of Ontario, Canada.

As a registered psychologist specializing in school and counselling psychology, Dr. Dinardo spent 18 years working with students, educators, and their families. She retired her psychologist practice in 2016 to dedicate more time to psychology teaching, speaking, and writing.

Publications

Textbooks

Dr. Dinardo’s psychology textbooks with McGraw-Hill Ryerson were published in 2009 and 2012. The most recent edition of Essentials published in 2016.

Magazines and Media

Dr. Dinardo also writes psychology articles for The Drive magazine. Topics consist of: mental health and wellness, learning from failure, stress resilience, and positive psychology in daily life.

She has also been interviewed by several publications and media outlets. Including: Psychology Today, CBC Television, Flare Magazine, What She Said Radio, FM 105.9 The Region, Glow Magazine, 107.7 Pulse FM, and AM 800 CKLW.

Awards

Dr. Dinardo is the recipient of the Robert J. Menges New Researcher Award from the AERA Special Interest Group on Faculty Teaching, Evaluation, and Development for her doctoral research: An experimental analysis of the effects of teacher enthusiasm on student attention, motivation, and learning.
